BJP attempts hat-trick through ERCP in Lok Sabha polls

The Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) has become a focal point. Now, the Bharatiya Janata Party will attempt a hat-trick in the Lok Sabha elections through ERCP. After the MOU between Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, the project will gain momentum. BJP will benefit from this project in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The impact of this project will be felt on 83 Assembly and 9 Lok Sabha seats in the state’s 13 districts. Along with the prestige of the Ram Temple, the BJP is preparing to cross the electoral battlefield through this project.
ERCP covers 13 districts, with a significant portion in Eastern Rajasthan
This project will directly affect the Jaipur Rural, Dausa, Alwar, Bharatpur, Tonk-Sawai Madhopur, Ajmer, Baran – Jhalawar, Kota-Bundi, and Dholpur-Karauli Lok Sabha seats. BJP received substantial support from Eastern Rajasthan in the Assembly elections.
In the 2018 Assembly elections, BJP won only one seat in the Bharatpur division of Eastern Rajasthan. However, later in the Rajya Sabha elections, Shobha Rani Kushwah was shown the way out due to cross-voting.
Cong did not benefit from raising ERCP issue during Assembly polls
In the Assembly elections, Congress had made ERCP a major issue. Congress alleged that due to the BJP government at the Centre, ERCP was not declared a national project.
Both sides engaged in a war of words on this issue. However, when the elections took place, Congress did not benefit much from it. Instead, the BJP advanced in Eastern Rajasthan, dealing a significant blow to Congress.
BJP could have faced a setback in ERCP-affected districts
BJP is once again preparing to win on all 25 seats. In the last two Lok Sabha elections, Congress did not open its account in Rajasthan. In 2019, the BJP won 24 seats, and its alliance party RLP won one seat.
The alliance with RLP has now broken, so this time BJP will contest on all 25 seats. It seemed that if the BJP did not take a significant step on the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project, it could face losses in these seats. However, now the BJP is expected to benefit from making a bold claim.
