On Monday, students of the government senior secondary girls’ school located in the Ganga Pool area of the city staged a demonstration in front of the Subhash Thana on the matter of action against the statement given by BJP MLA Balmukund Acharya regarding the hijab.
The students alleged that the MLA insulted their religion by giving a controversial statement on the hijab. The demonstration lasted for about six hours. Due to this, there was a traffic jam in the entire Subhash Chowk area.
Additional forces were deployed in the area to control the situation. The police diverted vehicles coming towards Subhash Chowk to other roads. After assuring appropriate action by the police officers and submitting a memorandum in the name of the district collector, the students ended the protest late in the evening.
On the other hand, MLA Balmukund Acharya stood by his statement. He said that all children in schools should come in the prescribed dress code. Due to the hijab, two dresses of students are visible on the school premises, which is against school rules.
According to information, on January 26, during the Republic Day celebration organized at the government senior secondary girls’ school, MLA Balmukund Acharya, after unfurling the flag on this occasion, gave a speech.
It is alleged that during this time, the MLA saw a group of students wearing hijabs and scolded them, restricting them from coming to school in the prescribed dress in the future. It is also alleged that the MLA forced the students wearing hijab to chant slogans and gave controversial statements about the hijab. Regarding this case, after the school closed on January 29, hijab-wearing students reached Subhash Chowk with their relatives and staged a demonstration. During this, a significant crowd gathered in and around the police station and the surrounding roads. Due to the demonstration, there was a traffic jam from Subhash Chowk Circle to Jorawar Singh Gate and Silver Mint. Meanwhile, DCP Rashi Dogra Dudi, and ADCP Virendra Singh Shekhawat, along with additional forces, reached the spot.
Additional police forces surrounded the entire Subhash Chowk area.
During this, DCP Dudi and ADCP Bhati started a dialogue with the protesting students, on which the students submitted a memorandum to the district collector’s name and, after assurance of appropriate action by DCP, the agitating students ended the protest late in the evening.
Hijab should be banned completely: Kirodi
State Agriculture Minister Kirodi Lal Meena said, “A complete ban should be imposed on the hijab in Rajasthan. Speaking to the media on Monday, he said that in many countries, there is a ban on the hijab. There should also be a ban on the hijab here.”
Kirodi said, “For discipline in school, it is necessary for all students to come in the same dress. In this way, anyone can come to school wearing any dress. Not only this, sometimes even a policeman will say that I will come to the police station only in a kurta-pajama. This rarely happens.”
Education Minister asked for report from the board regarding hijab
Amid the controversy over hijab in schools, Education Minister Madan Dilawar has sought a report from the Board of Secondary Education. He has asked for information about the states that have banned hijab in the school dress code.
Board officials have been instructed to submit this report by Tuesday afternoon. It is believed that after the arrival of this report, the education department can make a major decision regarding hijab in the dress code.
