Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Ashwini Kumar Choubey, on Monday said that the Ministry has generated consumer awareness under “Jago Grahak Jago” campaign through electronic, outdoor and social media.
He further said that the Ministry participates in fairs/festivals/events where a large number of people gather and get knowledge about their rights as consumers.
Replying to a question of Rajya Sabha MP Kartikeya Sharma, he said that the Department of Consumer Affairs also releases grantin-aid to various States/UTs for generating awareness at local level. Choubey further added that the Department of Consumer Affairs in 2022-23 had launched “Jagriti”, a mascot for empowering consumers and generating awareness of their rights. Jagriti is projected as an empowered young consumer. On the question of addressing grievances of consumer, the Union Minister said that it works at three layers. District level (District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission), State level and National level (National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission) where consumers can file their complaints.
