YS Sharmila, the Andhra Pradesh Congress president and sister of YSRCP leader and CM, Jagan Mohan Reddy, has launched a new attack on her brother. There have been recent reports in Andhra Pradesh that Jagan was planning to leave for London post the elections and return only around the end of May. At a public meeting on Wednesday, Sharmila spoke about this London trip of her brother’s and slammed him for trying to ‘escape’.
In the video doing the rounds on social media, YS Sharmila said that Jagan Mohan Reddy was leaving the country and also leaving the cadres of his party in the lurch. She said, ‘Jagan is in the process of obtaining the necessary paperwork and getting his passport ready to leave India after the election. He fears potential arrest following an electoral defeat, which seems inevitable. Thus, he is making arrangements to exit the country post the elections on May 13.”
Whether Sharmila’s statements will have an impact on the upcoming polls on May 13 is yet to be seen. Her remarks are seen by the people as an effort to demoralize the cadres and the supporters of YSRCP. While Jagan’s main challenge is the BJP-TDP-JanaSena combine, the Congress, headed by his sister Sharmila, is also a thorn on the side. Sharmila stated earlier that Jagan could in “no way claim to be a true political heir of her father – former chief minister late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, who had been the champion of the poor people by implementing his welfare agenda”.
According to the buzz, Jagan and his wife, Bharathi, would be leaving for London on May 15 and stay there till the 30th. This 15-day long holiday will also see his two daughters joining the couple. Both his daughters are currently studying in London. Jagan is set to return on May 30th, four days before the counting of votes on June 4. This is a crucial election for him as he will either return as Chief Minister or be the Opposition leader.
