In a recent interview with Rai Italia, Ceccon expressed his excitement about being on the Olympic podium and shared that his dream of winning an Olympic gold medal was something he envisioned since childhood. His journey to success is deeply rooted in his family, with his mother being an Italian champion in skating and his father a pentathlete in the army. Ceccon also used to swim with his brother, Efrem.
Ceccon had to choose between tennis and swimming at a young age, ultimately deciding to pursue swimming. His skills in the pool have earned him the nickname “the shark” due to his speed, height, and determination.
He made his Olympic debut at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, held in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, where he helped Team Italy win a silver medal in the men’s 4×100-meter freestyle relay and a bronze in the men’s 4×100-meter medley relay. He also placed fourth in the 100-meter backstroke at the Tokyo Games. In 2022, Ceccon set a new world record in the 100-meter backstroke at the world championships in Budapest.
