In an exclusive interview, the ‘Darlings’ actor recounts the startling occurrence while discussing her part as Ria Verma in Mira Nair’s critically acclaimed film “Monsoon Wedding.” Her character in the film was sexually abused as a child. “Like I said earlier, everyone has gone through it,” Shefali remarked. I recall passing through a crowded market and getting inappropriately touched, and feeling terrible about it. And never, ever saying anything because it’s not guilt, but it’s just…shameful.
When asked if she wondered if she done something to invite it, the actor replied, “Yes. I completely agree with you. Many individuals wonder, “Did I do anything?” You feel guilty, ashamed, and bhool jao. ‘Shove it under the rug’ type of stuff. To be honest, I don’t believe I gave it much thought that it’s a crucial subject to have. It was really something that hit home with me and the entire film.”
