Ashwini Vaishnaw, India’s Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, recently showcased the new Google Pixel 8 smartphone, emphasizing the “Made in India” label. He shared an image of the Pixel 8 on his X (formerly Twitter) account, highlighting its Indian manufacturing. This announcement follows the launch of the new Pixel 9 Series.
Google has officially started producing the Pixel 8 in India, as confirmed in a post on X. The company expressed its enthusiasm about the production milestone and acknowledged the Indian government’s support. The post read, “Excited to announce that the first of our Made in India Google #Pixel8 devices have started rolling off the production lines. Grateful for the partnership with Hon’ble Minister @AshwiniVaishnaw as we look forward to bringing the #TeamPixel experience to people across India.” This move is part of the government’s “Make in India” initiative, aimed at boosting domestic production and decreasing import dependence. By manufacturing the Pixel 8 locally, Google not only strengthens its presence in the Indian market but also supports the growth of the local manufacturing industry.
With the Pixel 8 now being produced in India, consumers may experience better availability and possibly more competitive pricing, although this has not yet been officially confirmed. This decision is also expected to enhance the appeal of Google’s Pixel series in one of the world’s largest smartphone markets.
In other news, Google recently launched its new Pixel 9 Series, which includes the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. These devices feature Google’s latest Tensor G4 chipset and a range of Gemini AI enhancements.
