Punjabi Singers Kanwar Grewal and Ranjit Bawa’s residence became the latest subject of the search operations carried out by the Income Tax Department accompanied by the CRPF guards. The operation started around 9.30 am and continued late at night.
The operation was lead by the Ludhiana’s Income Tax Department officials to examine the alleged tax theft by the singers following several complaints. The operation specifically wanted to tally the actual earnings of the singers with the wealth disclosed by them.
During the search operation, the family members of the singers were not allowed to move outside neither any visitor was allowed. Officials said a media release, if any, would be issued later on if the operations detect some incriminating financial activity.
Notably, National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been carrying out interrogations with the Punjabi singers to rule out the ‘influence’ of gangsters in the Punjabi industry. Recently Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) banned Grewal’s song ‘Rihai’. The song specifically projected the backdrop of ‘Bandi Singhs’, Sikh prisoners who have been lodged in different jails across the country in spite of completing their tenure of imprisonment.
