An Israeli man was fatally shot in the Palestinian town of Qalqilya in the northern West Bank on Saturday morning, according to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). This incident occurred as deadly strikes continued to hit northern Gaza. Over 37,500 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, and more than 500 in the West Bank since Israel launched its assault following Hamas’ October 7 attack, which resulted in nearly 150 deaths.
In a statement, the Israeli army confirmed the man was pronounced dead after the shooting, and that Israeli troops are currently operating in the area. This comes a day after Israeli forces shot and killed two militants in the same town.
What is Happening in the West Bank?
Violence has intensified in the West Bank since the Israel-Hamas war began in October last year. According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, at least 549 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire in the West Bank since the conflict started. During the same period, Palestinians in the West Bank have killed at least nine Israelis, including five soldiers, according to United Nations data.
