Sunrisers Hyderabad strengthened their batting lineup by securing Ishan Kishan for INR 11.25 crore during the IPL 2025 auction, marking the end of his seven-season stint with Mumbai Indians. Kishan, now set to join an explosive top order alongside Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, adds significant firepower to SRH’s batting.

While Punjab Kings also showed interest, it was SRH’s late bids that clinched the deal. Despite being one of the top Indian batters in the auction pool, Kishan’s value didn’t reach the levels of players like Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and Venkatesh Iyer.

Kishan’s IPL career includes 2644 runs from 105 matches, with his best season in 2020, where he scored 516 runs and helped MI win the title. However, his strike rate of 135 has been a concern for some franchises. With SRH, Kishan will join a potent lineup, replacing Rahul Tripathi, and could play a key role in the team’s quest for IPL success.

Mumbai Indians will now need to find a new opening option, with several talented players still available in the auction. Despite Kishan’s departure, MI’s middle order remains strong with Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Hardik Pandya, while Jasprit Bumrah continues to shine in all formats.

MI’s first purchase of the night was Trent Boult, who was acquired for INR 12.5 crore, marking their only major move in the auction.
