Vidyut Jammwal’s ‘Crakk’, which hit screens on February 23, has failed to live up to expectations at the box office. The sports action drama, shot on a budget of 45 crore, collected merely Rs 7 crore in the first week. According to exhibitor Akshaye Rathi, the figures are ‘underwhelming’ but it would be wrong to write off the film.
“There is no doubt the first week was underwhelming but the film might pick up in the weeks to come. Fighter and Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya too didn’t have a great first week but gained in week 2 and week 3. So, I don’t think we can give a verdict and call it a flop,” he told ‘The Daily Guardian’.
Rathi further said the film won’t face any competition from ‘Dune 2’, which hit screens today (March 1). This might help the Bollywood film in the long run.
“The audiences are different. Dune 2 caters to an urban audience, which isn’t case with Crakk. In fact, the target group for Crakk may not even be interested in Dune 2,” he added
‘Crakk’ centres on Siddhu, a slum dweller who enters a dangerous competition to learn the truth about his lost brother. Besides Vidyut Jammwal, it features Arjun Rampal and Amy Jackson. Nora Fatehi also essays a key role in the film. ‘Crakk’ is directed by Aditya Datt, best known for his work on ‘Commando 3’ and ‘Aashiq Banaya Aapne’.
This is Vidyut’s first release of the year. The action hero was last seen in ‘IB71’, which hit screens in 2023. The film received positive reviews and exceeded expectations at the box office. Its cast included Anupam Kher, Vishal Jethwa, Suvrat Joshi and Dalip Tahil. ‘IB71’ was directed by Sankalp Reddy of ‘The Ghazi Attack’ fame.
Vidyut will next be seen in ‘Sher Singh Raana’, directed by Shri Narayan Singh.
