An Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, Saurabh Meena, was arrested by the Noida police on charges of murder after the body of his female friend was discovered at his rented accommodation in Sector 100. The incident occurred at the Lotus Boulevard Society where Meena resides.

The police were alerted on Saturday around 4 pm regarding the death of a 35-year-old woman, initially believed to be a suicide at a high rise. Upon arrival, they found Meena and society guards had broken down the door.

“The accused Saurabh has been arrested and sent to judicial custody. The family members (of the woman) have alleged he was involved in the incident so an FIR under Section 302 (murder) has been registered… Further action will be taken according to the post-mortem report,” stated Manish Kumar Mishra, Additional DCP, Noida.

Meena and the woman reportedly met on a dating app about three years ago. Their relationship had deteriorated in recent months, leading to the incident following an argument.

The woman, employed as a deputy HR manager at a government institution, succumbed to her injuries, as per the autopsy report. Meena, on the other hand, holds the position of a deputy commissioner of the IRS, currently on deputation in Delhi.

Authorities plan to recreate the crime scene and await forensic and autopsy reports for further action.
