Iran has cancelled all flights from its airports between 9 pm on Sunday and 6 am on Monday, citing operational restrictions. This precautionary move comes as tensions between Iran and Israel escalate, with fears of an Israeli retaliatory strike looming large.
Following Iran’s announcement, Lebanon also cancelled flights from Beirut airport for the same period. The flight suspensions follow recent missile strikes by Iran on Israel, in response to the deaths of Hezbollah commanders, including former leader Hassan Nasrallah.
The flight cancellations coincide with the first anniversary of the October 7 attacks, when Hamas launched a deadly incursion into southern Israel. Over 1,200 civilians were killed in the attacks, with nearly 250 taken hostage. Israel has vowed retaliation, further intensifying the conflict.
The Israeli military has increased troop deployments near the Gaza border, anticipating potential escalations on the anniversary. Iran-backed groups such as Hezbollah and the Houthis in Yemen have also launched attacks against Israel, heightening the region’s instability.
