Punjab Kings (PBKS) matched Mumbai Indians’ (MI) achievement of securing five consecutive victories against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). PBKS accomplished this milestone with a convincing 7-wicket triumph over CSK at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday.
PBKS began their five-game winning streak against CSK in the 2021 IPL season and have maintained their dominance since then. Previously, MI held the record for the most consecutive wins between the 2018 and 2019 seasons of the T20 tournament. Additionally, Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) have each enjoyed four consecutive victories against the Chennai-based franchise in the IPL.
PBKS also joined Mumbai Indians (MI) as the second franchise with the highest number of wins as visiting teams at Chepauk in the IPL, with 5 victories at Chennai’s home stadium. Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) rank third with three wins as away sides against CSK in Chennai.
Reflecting on the match, the energetic yellow presence in the stands of Chepauk was silenced as PBKS efficiently chased down 163 with over two overs to spare. Stand-in captain Sam Curran’s decision to bowl first paid off, as the dew factor later hindered CSK bowlers in the second innings.
Ruturaj Gaikwad played a pivotal role, scoring 62 runs off 48 balls, while MS Dhoni’s late onslaught propelled CSK to a total of 162/7.
In response, PBKS batsmen comfortably chased down the target of 163. Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw’s partnership of 64 runs tilted the momentum firmly in their favor, with Curran and Shashank Singh wrapping up the victory with ease.
