IPL 2024: The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has revolutionized T20 cricket, witnessing a cascade of record-breaking moments. In a showdown between Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants, the ongoing season saw the highest number of sixes ever in a single edition of the lucrative league. A staggering 20 towering maximums were hammered during the high-scoring encounter, with the Capitals ultimately clinching a 19-run victory.

This surge in sixes brought the total tally for the ongoing season to 1,125, setting a new record. And with several games remaining, this number is expected to climb further. In the preceding season, 1,124 sixes were struck, while in 2022, the ball cleared the boundary ropes 1,062 times. These figures underscore the prevalent trend of aggressive batting dominance in recent seasons.

Furthermore, numerous records have been shattered in the current season of the IPL. The Punjab Kings achieved the highest successful chase in T20 history, chasing down a colossal target of 262 set by the Kolkata Knight Riders at the iconic Eden Gardens. This match also witnessed a record-breaking tally of 42 sixes.

Sunrisers Hyderabad etched their name in the annals of cricket history by setting the IPL’s highest total of 287/3 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, surpassing their previous record of 277/3 against the Mumbai Indians. Meanwhile, the Lucknow Super Giants, vying for a playoff spot, completed the highest successful chase at Chepauk by overhauling a target of 211 against the Chennai Super Kings. In the same match, Marcus Stoinis set a new record for the highest individual score in a chase with his unbeaten 124*.
