Apple’s 12 series has been an appealing collection I would say as there is something for everyone. If you have the money to spend then they have the most ambitious and best pick 12 Pro Max. The phone is fully loaded, offers impeccable performance, good camera and above all a good battery.

PRICING & VARIANTS

The iPhone 12 Pro Max is available in 128GB for Rs 1,29,900, 256GB for Rs 1,39,900, and 512GB for Rs 1,59,900.

DISPLAY & DESIGN

The iPhone 12 Pro Max is the largest iPhone from Apple. It gets flattened edges on the top and bottom and has a flat frame. It is surely a large device but not an uncomfortable one. You cannot be using the device single-handedly but the width is good enough for you to hold it well. I was previously using the 11 Pro Max and this phone is significantly bigger.

The build quality is fantastic. You get a stainless-steel frame running around all sides, the usual array of buttons and ports for an iPhone, and a frosted glass back panel.

It gets a 6.7-inch OLED Super Retina XDR OLED panel with a resolution of 2,778×1,284 pixels. The brightness, contrast and colour are the same as the iPhone 12 Pro.

CAMERA

Now let’s talk about the main part of this device, the Camera. It is a real upgrade. The pictures come phenomenal and they worked on every lens and mode. The main rear camera is new and is said to have a 47% larger sensor, with bigger 1.7-micrometre pixels for improved low-light performance. Apple has also used sensor-shift stabilisation, which means the sensor itself can move slightly on its axes to compensate for handshakes, instead of the lens moving.

Apple has also got an altogether new telephoto camera with a longer focal length on the iPhone 12 Pro Max. All the sensors are 12 megapixels, and all support Deep Fusion, Night Mode, Night Portrait, and Smart HDR 3. The iPhone 12 Pro Max can also shoot Dolby Vision HDR videos at up to 4K 60fps.

Daylight photography on the device is a sheer delight. Detailing and accuracy of the colour are remarkable. The quality of letting an image be the way it is—you can experience it well on the 12 Pro Max.

The telephoto lens helps you capture the minutest of things and with great detailing. You can zoom in and not get a distorted result. The closer the picture the more detail you can achieve without missing out the incredibly good essence.

The new sensor magic is witnessed more in low light than in daylight. The low light images give you results like the ones you have never seen before. The night mode pictures on the device are also bright and easily postable without filters. The wide-angle camera might not get you the best results in comparison to the other lens.

The front camera of 12 Pro Max gives you a remarkably similar result like the 12 Pro. As I had mentioned in my previous review the images are very real and capture every single blemish on your face.

Videos shot at 4K during the day looked great, with excellent colours and details. Dolby Vision HDR videos too came out well. The new sensor-shift stabilisation is effective, the videos shot do not have noticeable jitter in day or night which is an achievement.

PERFORMANCE

iPhone 12 Pro Max gets the most capable Apple A14 Bionic SoC chipset, there’s 6GB of RAM, 5G, an IP68 rating and eSIM functionality. Performance-wise I do not think anyone can have a complaint. The device works extremely fast and the response rate is exceedingly high. Multi-tasking is easy, and the phone feels no lag. I have been using the device for a while and have found no crashing of apps. You get yourself an exceptionally large screen making content consumption very enjoyable. The only hitch people can have would be with the weight as you might feel it is heavy if you are holding the device for too long. The only issue which gamers might face is that the phone tends to heat up while playing games for long. Playing high graphic games on the device is pure joy but heating can be a bit of a downside.

BATTERY

The battery is always an important part of an iPhone. The 12 Pro Max runs well with a single charge for a whole day while you are doing your basic day-to-day work on it, making video calls or attending meetings online. If you are watching content or playing games, then the battery might run out a bit earlier. The device does not come with a charger in the box. If you have your old charger then you can easily use that or else you can use Apple’s optional MagSafe wireless charger as well.

VERDICT

To wrap up on my take on the iPhone 12 Pro Max, I would simply say it is a good device with great built quality, much better battery life and has a versatile camera. Performance is extremely speedy, and the display is great. In all departments, the device fares well. The size of the device might be a hitch for a few people and hard-core gamers might want to think about the heating factor. But if you have the money and are looking for a good iPhone then the 12 Pro Max should be your pick.
