In Keeping with the tradition of honouring its braves the Army organises investiture ceremony at regional commands, at nominated location every year. The Southern Command Investiture Ceremony is accordingly being organised at Konark Corps, on 12 February.

The Indian Army will honour selected Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and Other Rank, who were conferred Gallantry as well as Distinguished Service Awards on 26 January 2020 and 15 August 2020. The Ceremony will be held at Konark Corps, on 12 February 2021.  Lieutenant General JS Nain, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command will present the Gallantry and Distinguished Service Awards to 44 army personnel. 22 Units of Southern Command will also be awarded the “Southern Army Commander’s Unit citations” for their outstanding contribution in various fields. A large number of Senior Army Officers, distinguished civil dignitaries and guests are expected to be in attendance.

The Indian army has a glorious history. It has fought four major Wars since independence besides the Kargil conflict in 1999. In addition to the conventional conflicts, Indian Army has also been deployed to tackle multiple insurgencies in the North East and Jammu Kashmir. Through the years, the Indian Army soldier has always conducted himself with elan despite numerous challenges, whether on the icy heights of Siachen Glacier, the soaring Deserts of Thar or the dense jungles of the North East. 

The contribution of Indian Army contingents as part of United Nations missions on foreign soil to support the cause of world peace is truly unparalleled. The Army has also been actively involved in the Aid to Civil Authority, during various natural calamities like flood relief and Covid-19 pandemic.
