The exhibition Inheritance currently on at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York brings forth the idea of inheritance through a group show of artists from various disciplines. Inspired by the 2020 film of Ephraim Asili’s film of the same name, the show displays installations, paintings, sculptures, photography as well as video by 33 artists. The exhibition explores the idea of rebirth, regeneration and repetition through a vast display of permanent collection of works from the 1970s till date, that also includes new acquisitions and works that questions and explore the journey of our existence, both as an individual and as a society. The exhibition organized by Rujeko Hockley, Arnhold Associate Curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art is on till February 29, 2024.
The newly opened show ‘Over Order’ is an exhibition of works by artists Padma Rajendran and Sarah Ingraham at Uprise Art in New York. Unique, extravagantly colourful and lush with a combination of patterns and colours, both artists enjoy the joyful interaction of design in their own way in their respective works. While Ingraham makes use of tile and borders in her works along with florals in her paintings of mostly tableware heaped in flowers and fruits and stoneware, Rajendran paintings appear to be an ode to home and homecoming of sorts. She creates works in folk art form on shaped and sewn silk using resist and dyes. The show is on till September 8.
Elaborate paper sculptures will be on display at The Contemporary at Bluestar in Texas as part of artist Michael Velliquette show ‘The Direct Path.’ These unique installations, temple like miniature structures are sure to leave you mesmerised. The exhibit will be on till September 3.
