Waterlogging has occurred in several regions of Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district as a result of heavy rainfall since Friday, according to an official on Saturday.

Given the circumstances, the district administration is on high alert and has deployed teams to several locations throughout the city to ensure the inhabitants’ safety.

“The roads and low lying settlements are submerged with water. The teams of municipal corporations and police departments have been deployed in these areas for the monitoring. People are being shifted from the lower settlements. The administration has also arranged food packets for the people living in the slums,” District Collector Ilayaraja T said.

On Friday evening, he also proclaimed a day off for all schools in the district until the 12th grade. Meanwhile, in light of the severe rains, Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava convened a meeting of city authorities at the Municipal Corporation headquarters and distributed hotline numbers.

Bhargava said, “It is raining continuously in the city. There is information of water filling in the river and areas around the pond in the city. In view of this, the officers of the corporation are working among the people. District administration, SDRF and NDRF teams are also in the field.”

He also advised city residents to avoid travelling to any picnic location during heavy rains. Work was being done to distribute food packages to the waterlogged settlements and colonies.

Alternative arrangements are being developed at chronic locations, and hotline numbers (07312535535, 07314030100, 9329555202) have also been issued so that people can call on these numbers in any situation, he added.
