As soon as India’s Squad for T20 WC broke out, Nearly everyone had the same question, “Why was Rinku Singh not picked?.” Fans, cricketers and even actors like Shah Rukh Khan were stunned by the selection. The Bollywood superstar also showed support for Rinku Singh over his exclusion.
The fans were anticipating the answer to this question much before the Press Conference started and finally, when Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar was asked this question, this is what he said:
“Not his fault that he missed out. Did nothing wrong and Shubman Gill as well for that matter. It was all about the combination we wanted. Wanted to have enough options with regards to wrist-spinners. Chahal, Kuldeep give us that. Axar Patel is the allrounder and then two wicketkeepers.”
Captain Rohit and Chief Selector Agarkar explained that it was just about the better team combination and not Rinku Singh or Shubman Gill.
The revelation of India’s 15-player lineup for the T20 World Cup scheduled for June has stirred a mix of astonishment and dissatisfaction, reflecting selectors’ strategic balance between seasoned expertise and current form to break an 11-year dry spell in ICC trophy victories.
Sanju Samson and Yuzvendra Chahal stood out as significant additions, acknowledged for their outstanding displays during the ongoing IPL season. Nevertheless, the exclusion of Rinku Singh and Shubman Gill from the primary squad has sparked curiosity, indicating a preference for tried-and-tested players in pursuit of championship success.
