In celebration of India’s 78th Independence Day, the Indian Embassy in Nepal planted 78 saplings on its premises, aligning with the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative. The event, held on Thursday, underscored the embassy’s commitment to environmental stewardship. Hon’ble Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri, Nepal’s Minister for Forests and Environment, also participated by planting a Nili Gulmohar sapling.
Earlier, on August 11, 2024, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri planted a similar sapling at the embassy. Members of the Indian diaspora and India-Nepal Friendship associations also contributed to the effort, promoting environmental sustainability.
The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on World Environment Day in June, encourages individuals to plant trees in honor of their mothers. The initiative has received widespread support, emphasizing collective responsibility for environmental protection.
