Amid fears of potential violent protests, the Brampton Triveni Mandir and Community Centre has canceled a planned Life Certificate Event. The consular camp, scheduled for November 17, was intended to help Indian-origin Hindus and Sikhs renew their essential life certificates. On Monday, the temple administration released a statement explaining the decision, citing intelligence from Peel Regional Police indicating an “Extremely High and Imminent Threat Level” of violent protests.

The temple administration expressed regret, saying, “We apologize to all community members who were depending on the event. We are deeply saddened that Canadians now feel unsafe coming to Hindu temples in Canada.” The administration also called on Peel Police to address the threats and ensure security for the Canadian Hindu community and the general public.

The Brampton Triveni Mandir serves as a spiritual gathering place for Hindus and like-minded individuals to engage in religious practices like Puja, Kirtan, Sewa, and Pravachan.

This cancellation follows a recent incident on November 3, when a consular event at the Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton was disrupted violently, sparking widespread criticism in Canada and abroad. In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack on social media platform X, describing it as a “deliberate attack” on the Hindu temple and expressing concern over attempts to intimidate Indian diplomats. Modi stated that such acts would not weaken India’s resolve, urging Canadian authorities to ensure justice and uphold the rule of law.

The incident adds to recent tensions between India and Canada, which escalated after Canadian leaders made unproven allegations related to an assassination on Canadian soil.
