Kohima (Nagaland) [India], October 28 — The Indian Army commemorated the 78th Infantry Day, celebrating the courage and sacrifices of Infantry soldiers through solemn ceremonies at Leimakhong Military Station in Manipur and Zakhama Military Station in Nagaland.

Shaurya Diwas: Remembering the Historic Battle of 1947

In conjunction with Infantry Day, the Army also observed Shaurya Diwas, a tribute to the successful landing of Indian forces at Srinagar Airfield on October 27, 1947. This historic operation was critical in defending Kashmir from invading Pakistani tribals and forces, marking Independent India’s first major military success.

Wreath-Laying Ceremonies at War Memorials

Solemn wreath-laying ceremonies were held at the war memorials in Leimakhong and Zakhama, where officers, Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), soldiers, and veterans gathered to honor the fallen heroes of the Infantry. Their presence symbolized the strong bond between generations of soldiers and a shared commitment to the nation’s defense.

Screening of Special Documentary on Infantry Contributions

As part of the celebrations, a special documentary was screened, showcasing the Corps of Infantry’s invaluable role in various military operations over the years. This tribute underscored the Infantry’s ongoing dedication to safeguarding India’s sovereignty and highlighted their contributions across challenging terrains and missions.

Unified Tribute by Red Shield Division

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Red Shield Division led the ceremonies, with officers and veterans sharing the stage as a symbol of unity and dedication to duty. The commemorative events in Manipur and Nagaland highlighted the enduring spirit and valor of Infantry soldiers, whose sacrifices continue to inspire new generations.
