It has returned the amount paid by an Indian-American CEO to the account after he publicly complained about the business-class service offered by them on social media. Anip Patel, chief executive of CaPatel Investments, in an Instagram post said that he had a “nightmare” ride on a 15-hour-long flight from Chicago to New Delhi for which he paid as much as Rs 5.27 lakh for a one-way ticket booked in first class. Neither did he formally complaint, but the airline reached out to him after his video went viral.
“I did not file any complaint with Air India but through social media they saw this video – they called me today and refunded my entire flight. They did make it right and it’s worth noting,” he stated in his video, which highlighted several issues during his journey.
Patel called it the “worst first-class cabin” he’s ever seen. He walked the cabin around to point out how “broken” and “dirty” it looked. “There was hair in there, things moving in every compartment, everything was ripped, or ruined or had little do on it. I understand regular wear and tear but this was next level guys,” he remarked.
He also presented a towel face, intended to be warm that was cold instead. He also complained about the headphones by saying they were not in good condition and also said not to be amused by the service of food saying 30% of the provided items were not available, while most of the rest others were first come, first served.
Then, of course, was the entertainment system that didn’t work at all on board. “Everything was broken. They literally taped up the walls,” he added.
“I’ve heard bad things about Air India before, but hoped recent changes with new management would have made a difference—sadly not. No Wi-Fi and in-flight entertainment was dead for the whole flight.”. First class was in terrible shape—filthy, with leftover food and trash still in the cabin, and everything looked aged or broken. It was a pretty frustrating experience overall. Be aware if you’re flying with them,” he wrote in the post.

One reviewer even shared his personal experience of not being so great: “Honestly, the worst plane ever. NASTYYYY!! My last flight, I was coming from Delhi to Toronto and I got food poisoning on the plane. I probably threw up like 10 times in an 18-hour direct flight and they had to have doctors sit next to me. It was the most terrible and uncomfortable experience of my life. Never flying in Air India ever again.”
Commenting on another incident, another said, “Flying with Air India? Better to walk to your destination; it’s one of the dirtiest and worst airlines ever.”
Someone else referred to Patel’s experience as “an actual nightmare.”
