Kamal Haasan’s much-awaited film, Indian 2, made a significant impact on its opening day, raking in approximately Rs 26 crore across India in all languages, according to a report from Sacnilk. The Tamil version led the charge with earnings exceeding Rs 17 crore, followed by the Telugu version with Rs 7.9 crore, and the Hindi version with Rs 1.1 crore. Indian 2, directed by Shankar, marks the sequel to the 1996 blockbuster Indian, where Kamal Haasan reprises his iconic role as Senapathy.
The film faced stiff competition from Sudha Kongara’s Sarfira at the box office, which features Akshay Kumar in a remake of the acclaimed Tamil film Soorarai Pottru. Despite this clash, Indian 2, produced by Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies, also stars Siddharth, S J Suryah, Bobby Simha, Gulshan Grover, and the late Nedumudi Venu, garnered attention across Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu audiences.
Reflecting on the film’s release, Kamal Haasan expressed satisfaction with the production’s enhancements over its predecessor, stating, “We have addressed all the shortcomings of the first part and more, whether in budget, technical prowess, or equipment.” Discussing his character’s evolution, he described the experience as deeply fulfilling, emphasizing, “The results make all the effort worthwhile.”
Indian 2’s robust start sets the stage for its performance in the coming weeks, promising to captivate audiences with its blend of action and drama.
