The Arattai app has quickly become one of India’s most popular messaging platforms, attracting millions of users in just a few weeks. Known for its fast performance, user-friendly interface, and ad-free experience, the app is now gearing up for a major update that will focus on privacy and security.
Zoho, the parent company, is planning to roll out new features, with end-to-end encryption as the top priority, ensuring messages remain completely secure between users.
The Arattai app, Zoho’s new messaging platform, is set to get end-to-end encryption (E2E) soon, according to Zoho CEO Mani Vembu. The feature is currently under development and is the company’s top priority.
In an interview with India Today Tech, Sridhar Vembu said, “We already support encryption for calls and videos. Even in messages, we have something called Secret Chat, which is supported, but that is not the default. Now we are actually working on end-to-end encryption, and most probably we will have an announcement on it soon. That’s our highest priority right now.”

The move will ensure that messages are readable only by the sender and the receiver. Not even Zoho will have access to user content.
Arattai has seen rapid adoption in India. Before the recent viral surge, the app had around 3,500 daily sign-ups. That number shot up to 350,000 in a single day last week and crossed one million daily sign-ups on one occasion.
The app has become one of the top downloaded apps on both the App Store and Google Play Store. Its rise highlights the demand for a secure, ad-free messaging platform in India.
Zoho is betting heavily on user privacy and data security. Vembu reiterated that the platform will never use ads or sell user data for monetisation.
The upcoming E2E encryption rollout will reinforce this promise, giving users confidence that their private messages remain secure.
Zoho is also exploring ways to expand Arattai into a platform. The company plans to allow third-party apps and services to build within the Arattai ecosystem.
Vembu said, “We are looking at how to open this platform for others — to build apps that are useful for consumers. That’s another direction we are exploring because it’s going to be a differentiator for us.”
This approach could make Arattai more than just a messaging app. It could become a hub for services and apps, offering more value to users and developers alike.
Along with E2E encryption, Zoho plans to introduce more features in the coming months to enhance user experience. The company is focusing on security, privacy, and platform growth.
