Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to visit India soon, with both countries working to finalise the dates. The visit will follow PM Narendra Modi’s 2024 trip to Kyiv and could mark a major step in strengthening India-Ukraine relations.
Ukraine’s Ambassador to India, Oleksandr Polishchuk, said preparations are underway. “The Indian PM invited Zelenskyy to come to India. Both sides are working on this. We expect President Zelenskyy to be in India, definitely.

It will be a great achievement in our bilateral relationship… We are trying to agree on a precise date,” he told reporters on Saturday. The ambassador stressed that the visit is certain, but the “precise date” is still being worked out.
Modi’s Kyiv Visit in 2024
The possible visit comes after PM Narendra Modi travelled to Kyiv on August 23, 2024. During that trip, Modi met Zelenskyy and formally invited him to India. The two leaders have also interacted during international summits in recent years, showing a steady rise in high-level engagement.

India’s Stand on the Russia-Ukraine War
Ambassador Polishchuk praised the growing dialogue between the two nations since 2023. He referred to Modi’s position on the Russia-Ukraine war, where India is “not neutral.” The PM has said that India supports peace, diplomacy, and dialogue instead of conflict.
Peace Talks & Global Efforts
Zelenskyy recently met US President Donald Trump for peace talks. Trump had earlier held discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. These moves are seen as part of wider global efforts to find a solution to the war.
Ukraine now hopes that India will play a stronger role in this process. “We expect President Zelenskyy to be in India, definitely. It will be a great achievement in our bilateral relationship,” the envoy said, underlining Kyiv’s expectations from New Delhi.

Role of India in Ending the Conflict
Polishchuk added that Kyiv wants India, with its longstanding ties to Moscow, to become more active in peace efforts. He suggested that progress on this issue could also be visible during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly session in September.
If the visit takes place, it will not only mark Zelenskyy’s first trip to India but also signal India’s increasing role in international mediation. The visit will also strengthen diplomatic and political trust between New Delhi and Kyiv at a crucial time in global politics.
