Zee Entertainment Seeks Court Intervention for Release of Controversial Film ‘Emergency’ and Censor Certificate

Zee Entertainment Enterprises, the co-producer of the film *Emergency*, approached the Bombay High Court on Wednesday, seeking the film’s release and a censor certificate.

In the petition filed, the company alleges that the censor board has “arbitrarily and illegally” withheld the film’s certification. The petition further claims that although the censor board is prepared to issue the certificate, it has not yet been granted.

The plea was brought before a division bench of Justices B.P. Colabawalla and Firdosh Pooniwalla, requesting an urgent hearing. The court is expected to address the petition later in the day.

*Emergency*, scheduled for release on September 6, is facing controversy from Sikh organizations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, which have accused the film of misrepresenting the community and distorting historical facts. The film, directed and co-produced by Kangana Ranaut, stars her in the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
