The water level of Dehli’s Yamuna river has crossed the danger mark, as reported by ANI on Monday, after all eighteen gates of the Hathnikund Barrage were opened for the first time this monsoon season.
Officials said that water is being released every hour from the Wazirabad and Hathnikund barrages are adding to the rising water level. The Central Water Commission (CWC) stated in an advisory that the Yamuna can reach 206 meters by August 19. The danger mark is 205.33 meters.

“In view of the quantity of water released from Hathnikund Barrage today, 17th August, and heavy rainfall in the Upper Yamuna area, it is informed that the water level at Delhi Railway Bridge may cross 206.00 around 02 AM on 19th August, 2025,” PTI quoted the advisory.

The CWC explained that the river had risen above the warning level of 204.50 meters by Sunday evening. It reached 204.40 meters at the Old Railway Bridge. The danger mark for Delhi is 205.33 meters. Evacuations start at 206 meters. The Old Railway Bridge is a key point for monitoring the flood situation.

The officials advised all agencies to stay alert.
As per reports, the Hathnikund Barrage is releasing 1,27,030 cusecs of water per hour, while Wazirabad is releasing 45,620 cusecs of water.
The Yamuna water level is increasing rapidly over the past few days. It touched 204.65 meters on Friday and 205.11 meters of Saturday.
