Jammu, July 24: A solemn wreath laying ceremony was held at the technical Air Force Station Jammu on Wednesday to honor Army soldier Lance Naik Subhash Chander, who was Martyred during an encounter with infiltrators in the Battal sector of Poonch on Tuesday.
Floral tributes were paid to the brave soldier by Lt Gen Navin Sachdeva, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding, 16 Corps; Maj Gen Mukesh Bhanwala, GOC 26 Infantry Division, Ramesh Kumar, Divisional commissioner Jammu, Anand Jain, ADGP Jammu Zone and other top civilian and security officers. Lance Naik Subhash Chander, 28, hailed from Hathras district in Uttar Pradesh.
An Army spokesman conveyed the deepest condolences of the Indian Army to the bereaved family, emphasizing the Army’s unwavering support in this hour of grief.
The encounter took place at 3 am on Tuesday, when soldiers foiled an infiltration attempt by engaging militants in a gunfight in the Battal sector of Poonch. According to an earlier statement by the Army, the Jammu-based White Knight Corps noted on X, “Alert troops foiled an infiltration bid by effectively engaging infiltrating terrorists with effective fire in the Battal sector at 0300 hours.”
During the heavy exchange of fire, Lance Naik Subhash Chander sustained injuries and later succumbed to them in the hospital on Tuesday. Sources reported that a group of armed terrorists attempted to infiltrate the Battal forward area of the Krishnagati belt, but alert troops detected their movement and responded promptly.
A search operation has been launched in the area to neutralize the remaining terrorists.
