Women’s Reservation Bill receives mix responses

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that this day, which marks the first day of session in the new Parliament building, has been immortalised owing to the introduction of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, or the Women’s Reservation Bill heralding a ‘new chapter’ in India’s parliamentary democracy.This day has been immortalized forever in Indian parliamentary democracy.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Wednesday, “Let’s rejoice” after the Lok Sabha passed the Women’s Reservation Bill, which provides for 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. Bharatiya Janata Party MP Tejasvi Surya said on Wednesday that the country has seen “tremendous improvement” in the condition of women during the last nine years of the Modi government.
Former Indian cricket captain Mithali Raj commended the Indian government for introducing the Women’s Reservation Bill, stating that it would boost women’s participation in government. She congratulated the Prime Minister and the government, expressing happiness with the move to provide 33 percent reservation to women in governance.

Trinamool Congress MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar criticized the BJP for not showing “true respect for women” by failing to take action against its own MP, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who faces allegations of sexual assault against wrestlers.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal criticized the government on Wednesday for including the census and delimitation clauses in the Women’s Reservation Bill, asserting that women have once again been let down in the predominantly male Parliament.
Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav emphasised the opposition’s demand to recognise women from minority and backward classes.
