Woman’s lifesaving act: Donates 65% of her liver to ailing husband

A 27-year-old woman volunteered to donate a remarkable 65 percent of her liver to save the life of her ailing husband. This remarkable story of resilience and sacrifice unfolded at Aakash Healthcare Super Specialty Hospital, Dwarka, and serves as a testament to the unwavering bond between a husband and wife.
The 37-year-old male patient hailing from Amritsar, Punjab, had been battling chronic liver disease, which had acutely decompensated because of a recent infection. His wife, aged 27, and their 2-year-old daughter witnessed his declining state. His past habits had severely damaged his liver, causing acute liver failure (jaundice).
His condition continued to worsen, leading to multiple organ failures. The medical team treated him with antibiotics as the first line of treatment. And while he did show some improvement, nevertheless, it was clear that a liver transplant was essential to saving his life. Knowing the severity of his condition, the man’s wife selflessly volunteered to donate a remarkable 65 percent of her liver to her ailing husband.

Her decision embodied the true spirit of Karwa Chauth, where married women fast for the well-being and longevity of their husbands. This selfless gesture underscored the depth of her commitment to their relationship and her determination to see her husband overcome this perilous situation.
