A horrifying case of dowry harassment has shaken Greater Noida after a woman, Nikki, was beaten and set ablaze by her husband and in-laws. Chilling videos from the incident show her walking down the stairs while on fire, moments before she collapsed.

Police said the woman was admitted to a local hospital with severe burn injuries and was referred to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital. However, she died on the way. A post-mortem has been conducted.

Dowry Torture Since 2016

Nikki married into a family in Sirsa village, Greater Noida, in 2016. Her elder sister, Kanchan, who is also married in the same family, revealed that the torture started just six months after Nikki’s wedding.

“They asked us to get Rs 36 lakh from our home. We were being tortured constantly. I was also beaten on Thursday night for the same demand,” Kanchan said.

Brutal Assault Before Death

According to Kanchan, her sister was assaulted in front of her and the children on Thursday evening. “They brutally assaulted my sister, then poured some liquid on her and set her ablaze in front of my eyes. I tried to save her, but I could not. I want justice,” she said with tears.

Nikki’s son also confirmed the brutal act. “They poured something on mumma, slapped her, and then set her ablaze using a lighter,” he said.

Several disturbing clips from the house have surfaced. One shows Nikki’s husband, Vipin, dragging her by the hair. He can be seen shirtless, with blood on his stomach and back. In another clip, Nikki is seen hobbling down the stairs while on fire before sitting on the floor in pain. Someone can be seen throwing water on her to help with her burns.

Police Action

Additional DCP Greater Noida, Sudhir Kumar, confirmed that Nikki succumbed to her injuries. “We received information that a woman had been admitted with burns. She was referred to Safdarjung Hospital but died on the way. A case has been registered on the complaint of her sister. The husband, Vipin, has been arrested,” he said.

Police are searching for Nikki’s father-in-law, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law, who are also named in the case.
