What initially seemed like an unfortunate accident has now turned into a murder investigation in Delhi’s Dwarka area. Police have arrested 35-year-old Sushmita Dev and her alleged lover, Rahul Dev, 24, for the murder of her husband, Karan Dev, 36. Rahul is also Karan’s cousin, being the son of his uncle.

Suspicious Death Raises Alarms

On July 13, Karan was taken to Mata Rooprani Maggo Hospital in Uttam Nagar in an unconscious state. The doctors suspected electrocution and informed the police. Karan's family at the time did not suspect foul play and even wanted the post-mortem to be waived. But things went awry days later.

Chats Between Wife and Cousin Trigger Investigation

Kunal, the younger brother of Karan, discovered incriminating conversations between Rahul and Sushmita on the victim's phone, which made him inform the police on July 16.

The messages suggested a more sinister plot between the two. Police officials later disclosed that the accused allegedly gave sleeping pills to Karan and then electrocuted him with a live wire.

Later, Sushmita allegedly went to her in-laws' place, saying Karan had fainted. He was rushed to the hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead.

A post-mortem examination at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital proved death due to electrocution. Kunal's doubts, however, remained and led to the police taking up the case.

A case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been filed. Both the accused are under arrest and being interrogated. Officials stated, "More details will come to light as the probe is carried out."
