Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, presently the biggest architect of the Opposition unity, is preparing to challenge Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Uttar Pradesh in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, though no official announcement has been made yet from his party.
Shravan Kumar, Minister of Rural Development of Bihar Government and in-charge of JDU in Uttar Pradesh, raised the political storm a little bit.
He said that there is a demand from many areas of the state that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from UP. Along with this, while taking the names of the Lok Sabha seats, he said that the party workers in Phulpur, Pratapgarh and Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh have demanded to make Nitish Kumar the candidate for the Lok Sabha elections.
The Parliamentary seat of Phulpur is the most-discussed one as the first Prime Minister of the country, Jawaharlal Nehru, had reached the Parliament after being elected from this seat. Former Prime Minister Vishwanath Pratap Singh was also an MP from Phulpur.
Prime Minister Modi is also an MP from Purvanchal in UP. If Prime Minister Narendra Modi contests from Varanasi and Nitish Kumar from Phulpur, then an interesting competition will be visible. Nitish Kumar’s Kurmi voters are also in a decisive role in Phulpur seat. Kurmi candidates have been elected as MPs from this seat nine times so far. There are about 19.75 lakh voters in this seat, out of which about 4 lakh voters are Kurmi.
