Will Congress end suspense over Karnataka CM post?

With power tussle in Karnataka going on for last one and half years and uncertainty over the Chief ministerial face, Congress leadership has asked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to come to Delhi for a meeting.

Party sources said that on Sunday, Siddaramaiah was called by party general secretary organisation KC Venugopal to come to the national capital for a discussion with party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.

Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah while speaking to the media in Bengaluru on Monday said that he has been asked to come to Delhi but he doesn’t have any idea about the agenda of the meeting.

Sources in the party said that a clarity on Chief Minister’s face will be given to both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar.

The source also said that during the visit of Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar even the cabinet reshuffling in the state that has been pending for long will be taken and as well as the MLC and Rajya Sabha polls will be discussed.

On the other hand, Shivakumar will be arriving in the national capital tonight itself for the meeting with the leadership.

The source said that before meeting Rahul Gandhi, Kharge will meet Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar and the decision will be conveyed to them.

Over the past 18 months, supporters of Shivakumar camp have repeatedly claimed that he would soon assume the chief minister’s post, although no such transition has materialised so far.

“It’s been the same tune for three years now,” a party functionary close to Shivakumar said, adding that the leadership should give clarity on the same.

He also stated that Shivakumar has worked a lot for the party to bring into the power in 2023. He has always been there for the party whenever the leadership has looked for him.

According to party sources, discontent is brewing within the Karnataka Congress unit, with several leaders pressing the party high command to resolve the leadership uncertainty at the earliest.

The sources said that many believe the delay in decision is damaging the Congress’s image in the state.

The central leadership, however, has so far refrained from taking a final decision, citing multiple factors.
