New Delhi, July 16: Amid the intense infighting in Congress Punjab unit, former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Thursday met with party general secretary organisation KC Venugopal and said that all is well in the party and he will abide the party’s high command decision.

Channi, who had been appointed the chairman for campaign committee in the state earlier in the day arrived in the national capital to meet the party leadership.

Channi before meeting Venugopal had met with party’s general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala alongwith Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa.

Later in the day he met Venugopal at the party’s new headquarters Indira Bhawan where his meeting with Venugopal lasted for over an hour.

After meeting the party leadership, Channi said, “All is well. We are committed to the party and we will follow the party line.”

He said that several leaders were called today, and they had presented their point of view.

“However, one thing is absolutely clear. We stand with the party. We respect the party high command. Rahul Gandhi is our leader; we love him. All our workers and leaders stand firmly with the party and will continue to do so,” he said.

He also said that they have “no intention” of embarrassing anyone or belittling anyone.

“We simply want to take the party forward in Punjab, and we have presented our case. The high command has listened,” he said, adding that the final decision always rests with the high command.

“Whatever decision they make, we will accept it and move forward accordingly. We are never against the party, nor have we ever tried to embarrass it. We will abide by whatever decision the party takes. All is well. We are committed to the party and we will follow the party line,” Channi added.

The meeting of Channi and other leaders from his camp came a day after state incharge Bhupesh Baghel had submitted his report with the party leadership on Wednesday.

Baghel after his meeting with Venugopal on Wednesday had remarked that there will no change in decision of the party.

Factionalism had erupted in Punjab Congress after the party decided to retain Amarinder Singh Raja Warring as state unit chief. Channi and several others had questioned the decision and demanded for a review on the same.

The warring leaders had also stated away from the meeting of Baghel for five days in Chandigarh, before finally meeting him on Saturday at the residence of Rana Gurjeet Singh.
