Delhi CM Rekha Gupta was attacked during a public hearing on Wednesday. The accused has been identified as Rajesh Sakaria. He is 42 years old and a resident of Rajkot, Gujarat. He is reportedly deeply attached to dogs, leading to his decision to attack the CM over the Supreme Court’s ruling to remove stray dogs from the capital city and NCR.

Sakaria’s mother, Bhanu, told the reporters, “My son loves dogs. He was angry after the Supreme Court’s order against stray dogs. And left for Delhi soon after. We don’t know anything else.”

The incident took place during the Jan Saunwai Programme at the CM’s Civil Lines camp office. Sakaria handed some papers to the Delhi CM Rekha before grabbing her hand, trying to pull her, as per the reports. The security staff and people around the CM immediately intervened and restrained him.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva assured that the CM was not slapped or hit, she escaped without any injuries. “She was shaken but safe. The incident appeared to be a scuffle after the man tried to pull her,” he said.

Some reports stated that the accused may have wanted to seek help from the CM regarding the arrest of one of his relatives. However, his family confirms that the main motive was his anger over the SC ruling.

The attack was condemned by party leaders across. AAP Leader and former Chief Minister of Delhi, Atishi, called it ‘unacceptable’ and called for strict actions.

Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa stated, “She worries about Delhi. This is distressing for her detractors. I condemn the attack in the strongest words.”
