Vice Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, born on May 15, 1964, is set to assume the prestigious role of Chief of the Naval Staff following the retirement of Admiral R Hari Kumar. Tripathi’s journey to this esteemed position is rooted in his solid educational foundation. He is an alumnus of Sainik School Rewa and the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla. Tripathi furthered his training and expertise through courses at the Naval War College in Goa and also underwent training at the Naval War College in the United States.

Commissioned into the executive branch of the Indian Navy on July 1, 1985, Vice Admiral Tripathi has carved a distinguished career path spanning nearly three decades. A specialist in communication and electronic warfare, his expertise has been honed through various command, staff, and instructional appointments.

Tripathi’s career highlights include serving as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command before assuming the role of Vice Chief of the Naval Staff. His operational roles have been diverse, including commanding INS Vinash and holding positions such as Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet, Director of Naval Operations, and Principal Director of Naval Plans in New Delhi.
