His music is popular among fans of pop-infused Punjabi music. He gained popularity in the mid-2010s with his songs such as "Do Kille," which was released in 2014. After the shooting, members of the Rohit Godara gang took responsibility for the incident in a now viral post. The post was made by Mahender Saran Dilana, Rahul Rinau and Vicky Phalwa, who took complete responsibility for the shooting.
In their Rohit Godara gang, members said that Kahlon was targeted due to his involvement in their gang rivalry. According to the post, Kahlon funded their rival gang, along with supplying them with weapons. He is also accused of being an informant ("mukhbiri") against the Rohit Godara gang members.
Teji Kahlon was shot multiple times in the stomach and was hospitalised as a result. As of October 22, there have been no confirmed reports of the singer's passing.
