In a moving moment during a public meeting in Yamunanagar, Haryana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Rampal Kashyap — a man who had walked barefoot for 14 years, waiting for the day he could meet Modi Ji after his election as Prime Minister.
Kashyap, a resident of Kaithal, took a remarkable vow in 2010. He pledged not to wear footwear until he got the chance to meet Narendra Modi as the elected Prime Minister of India. Through relentless summers, bitter winters, and daily life challenges, Kashyap upheld his promise, walking barefoot through towns and villages as a mark of his devotion.
On April 14, 2025, his long-awaited dream came true. At the rally in Yamunanagar, PM Modi personally met him — and in an emotional gesture, helped him wear shoes, bringing closure to Kashyap’s 14-year journey.

PM Modi acknowledged the moment on social media, writing on X (formerly Twitter): “At today’s public meeting in Yamunanagar, I met Shri Rampal Kashyap Ji from Kaithal. He had taken a vow 14 years ago—that he will only wear footwear after I became PM and he got to meet me. I am humbled by people like Rampal Ji and also accept their affection, but I want to request everyone who takes up such vows—I cherish your love… please focus on something that is linked to social work and nation building!”
He echoed the same in Hindi, urging supporters to take up vows that contribute to society: “I respect the sentiments of all such companions, but I urge them to take a pledge for some social or national cause instead of such vows.”
While the moment was deeply personal for Rampal Kashyap, it resonated with many across the country — highlighting the profound emotional connection some citizens feel with their leaders. Modi’s response also carried an important message: heartfelt gestures are valued, but the nation’s progress should always remain the ultimate goal.
Rampal Kashyap’s story is not just about devotion; it’s a reflection of enduring faith, resilience, and the emotional fabric that binds leaders and the people they serve.
