Manikrao Kokate is a prominent Indian politician who currently serves as the Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare, and Minority Development and Aukaf in the Government of Maharashtra. Manikrao Kokate’s legal difficulties have intensified further. It is being reported that the Nashik District Sessions Court has upheld the conviction and ordered his arrest.

The District Sessions Court has delivered an important verdict in the 10% government quota apartment misconduct case, upholding the two-year jail sentence and a fine of ₹10,000 imposed earlier. The sentence was originally given by a First-Class Magistrate Court and has now been confirmed by the District Sessions Court.  There is speculation that an arrest warrant may be issued at any moment.

Manikrao Kokate is a politician from Nashik district, Maharashtra. He is currently the MLA from the Sinnar Assembly constituency, elected on a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) ticket. He has won the Sinnar seat five times. He also contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Nashik as an Independent candidate, but was unsuccessful.

Manikrao Kokate Political career

Manikrao Kokate began his political journey with the Indian National Congress (INC) at a young age. He later joined the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) after it was formed by Sharad Pawar in 1999.

When the NCP denied him a ticket from Sinnar, he switched to Shiv Sena and won the 1999 and 2004 Maharashtra Assembly elections. Later, he joined the rebellion led by then Shiv Sena leader Narayan Rane and moved to the Congress, winning the 2009 Assembly election from Sinnar for the third time.

Ahead of the 2014 Assembly elections, he joined the BJP but lost to Shiv Sena candidate Rajabhau Waje. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he contested as an Independent candidate from Nashik but was defeated.

He returned to the NCP for the 2019 Assembly elections and won the Sinnar seat for the fourth time by a narrow margin. In the 2024 Assembly elections, he secured a decisive victory against NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) candidate Uday Sangale.
