The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) Election 2025 has once again highlighted the dynamic and ideological diversity that defines JNU politics. Among the most notable outcomes this year is the victory of Komal Devi, who clinched the School of Social Sciences (SSS) councillor seat.

Her win has ended an 11-year drought for the Birsa Ambedkar Phule Students Association (BAPSA), marking a major comeback for Ambedkarite representation on campus.

Who is Komal Devi?

Komal Devi is a prominent student leader from JNU and a dedicated member of BAPSA known for her strong voice on issues of social justice, equality and representation, she has long advocated for marginalised communities within academia.

Her win represents more than just an electoral success it’s a reaffirmation of BAPSA’s core ideals rooted in the teachings of Babasaheb Ambedkar, Jyotiba Phule and Birsa Munda.

The victory of Komal Devi as SSS councillor is a turning point for BAPSA with the return of BAPSA into representation, after more than a decade without holding any position either in the central panel or school-level councils, marks the renewed engagement of students with the politics of Ambedkar.

The supporters celebrated her victory with chants of "Jai Bhim, Jai Savitri, Jai Johar," calling it a victory for social justice and equality on campus. In its official statement, BAPSA described the result as a milestone in our continuous struggle for dignity, rights and representation.

Who Wins the Vice President Post

This year's election witnessed a 67% turnout which is slightly less than last year's figures but still among the highest in Indian university elections. The Left alliance led all key positions with Aditi Mishra leading the race for the presidency against ABVP's Vikas Patel.

As has been every time, JNUSU elections remain a testimony to the energetic, ideological and highly participatory youth politics of India.
