JNUSU Elections 2025: Key Candidates From Left Unity Central Panel

The Left Unity central panel that is contesting the JNUSU Elections 2025 is:

  • President: Aditi Mishra
  • Vice-President: K. Gopika Babu
  • General Secretary: Sunil Yadav
  • Joint Secretary: Danish Ali

Backed by the three major left student organisations AISA, SFI and DSF this panel highlights issues such as student rights, hostel reform and the reopening of closed hostels, terming the elections a battle for the future of campus politics.

JNUSU Elections 2025: AISA’s Decade of Dominance in JNU Politics

For over a decade, AISA-led Left alliance has maintained an iron grip on the student politics of JNU. The campus, often dubbed as “painted red,” has witnessed AISA and its Left partners SFI, DSF, and AISF dominating the polls almost continuously since 2011.

In the last JNUSU election, Nitish Kumar (AISA) was elected President; Manisha, from DSF, won the post of Vice-President while Munteha Fatima, also from DSF, secured the General Secretary post. The ABVP managed to break its long dry spell with Vaibhav Meena winning the Joint Secretary seat, its first central panel win in ten years, possibly to bring it into resurgence as a right-wing student organisation.

A look at the past decade underlines AISA’s consistency:

  • 2024: Nitish Kumar (AISA – United Left)
  • 2023: Dhananjay (AISA – United Left)
  • 2019: Aishe Ghosh (SFI – United Left)
  • 2018: N Sai Balaji (AISA – United Left)
  • 2017: Geeta Kumari (AISA – United Left)
  • 2016: Mohit K Pandey (AISA – United Left)
  • 2015: Kanhaiya Kumar (AISF)
  • 2014: Ashutosh Kumar (AISA)
  • 2013: Akbar Chawdhary (AISA)
  • 2012: V. Lenin Kumar (DSF)
  • 2011: Sucheta De (AISA)

The enormity of the Left victories points to the deep-seated ideological penchant of JNU. Indeed, with organisational strength, coalition unity, and grassroots outreach, AISA has established itself as the dominant force in campus politics for over a decade.

Therefore, the coming 2025 elections will determine whether this red wave continues or if the ABVP’s new push can finally test the Left stronghold.

JNUSU Election 2025: When to Expect Result?

The results for the JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU) Elections 2025 are scheduled to be announced on November 8, 2025. The tallying of votes will begin immediately after polling closes, with the winners for the posts of President, Vice-President, General Secretary and Joint Secretary being officially declared later that evening.
