Bhavish Aggarwal Techie Suicide Case

In September 2025, Bhavish Aggarwal and Ola Electric faced scrutiny after K. Aravind, a Bengaluru-based engineer, died by suicide, leaving a 28-page note alleging workplace harassment and withheld pay. Bengaluru police filed an FIR naming Aggarwal and a senior executive under abetment of suicide.

Ola Electric stated the employee never raised complaints and that a posthumous payment was part of a “full and final settlement.” The Karnataka High Court has ordered police not to harass company officials. The case raised concerns about workplace culture and mental health in India’s startup ecosystem.

Bhavish and Ola have faced several controversies over the years. Media reports highlighted workplace culture concerns at Ola Electric, including claims about aggressive behaviour and a “hostile” environment from some former employees.

Ola Electric also faced product-safety issues in 2022–2023 after isolated e-scooter fire incidents, which led to a voluntary recall of certain scooters and regulatory scrutiny.

Under Bhavish’s leadership, Ola grew from a ride-hailing startup to a multi-vertical company that includes ride hailing (Ola Consumer), electric vehicles (Ola Electric), and other consumer services.
