The Delhi High Court on Tuesday welcomed three new judges Justice Dinesh Mehta, Justice Avneesh Jhingan, and Justice Chandrasekharan Sudha bringing its total strength to 44 judges out of a sanctioned 60. The oath ceremony was administered by Chief Justice DK Upadhyay, who formally inducted the newly transferred judges into the court.
Transfers Recommended by Supreme Court Collegium
According to official notifications, the Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, had recommended the transfers during meetings held on August 25 and 26. The Union government approved and notified the transfers on October 14.
Justice Dinesh Mehta and Justice Avneesh Jhingan were moved from the Rajasthan High Court, while Justice Chandrasekharan Sudha came from the Kerala High Court.
Part of Ongoing Reshuffle in the High Court
This marks the third major reshuffle at the Delhi High Court this year.

The first came in March, when Justice Yashwant Varma was transferred to the Allahabad High Court following reports of a large cash recovery from his residence.

The second took place in July, when six judges from other high courts were reassigned to Delhi.
Impact on Seniority and Court Composition
The latest appointments have again reshaped the seniority order at the Delhi High Court.
Justice Mehta, who was first elevated as a judge of the Rajasthan High Court in November 2016, is now the fourth most senior judge in Delhi.
With these transfers, the Delhi High Court now has nine judges from outside the national capital the highest number ever reflecting a broader, pan-India representation in its judicial ranks.
