The results of the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections are announced for 2025-26, as ABVP won the President post and NSUI got the Vice President post. For the past few days, student groups have been campaigning hard. Huge amounts of money are spent during these elections as candidates try every possible way to win. This year, the main contest for the president’s post is between ABVP’s Aryan Maan, NSUI’s Joslyn Nandita Chaudhary, and SFI-AISA’s Anjali.

Every year, Delhi University conducts the DUSU elections. Special arrangements are made by the university, and polling booths are set up. All DU students cast their votes, and the results are declared after counting.

What Is the Tenure?

The tenure of DUSU office-bearers is 11 months. In the 12th month, fresh elections take place. The main positions include president, vice-president, secretary, and joint secretary. The student group that wins the president’s post is considered the most powerful, as the president oversees all major activities within the university.

What Are the Powers of the DUSU President?

The post of DUSU president is very significant. The winner gets a separate office and takes part in all key administrative decisions. If the president disagrees with any decision, they have the right to oppose it. The DUSU president represents thousands of students, which gives the position strong political importance. For many, it also opens the door to a career in politics.

How Much Budget Is Given?

The DUSU president does not receive any salary. However, the winning student organization is given a budget of ₹20 lakh. This money is used for cultural activities, events, and research. Former DUSU president Raunak Khatri once explained in an interview that all four office-bearers — president, vice-president, secretary, and joint secretary — are allocated ₹5 lakh each. The funds are not transferred directly into their accounts. Instead, a committee is formed, and the spending details must be provided before the funds are released.

The DUSU elections hold major significance in Delhi University. With limited tenure but high influence, the post of president is not just about student welfare but also about political grooming. The power, budget, and visibility make it one of the most closely watched student elections in the country.

Disclaimer: The fund allocations mentioned above are indicative and can vary from year to year. Actual budgets for DUSU office-bearers may differ depending on university policies and specific approvals.
