Even as North India witnesses the withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon, Maharashtra faces a high alert for significant rains on Monday, September 15, 2025. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued color-coded alerts across the state, cautioning of severe to extremely heavy rainfall.

What are the Active Weather Alerts?

The severity of anticipated weather conditions is indicated by the IMD’s alert system:

Orange Alert (Be Prepared): A weather warning has been declared for Raigad, Ratnagiri, and the ghat stretches of Pune and Satara, citing very heavy rainfall.

Yellow Alert (Be Aware): The forecast for Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar warns of intense rainfall with storms, lightning, and high winds, and Vidarbha has also been issued a Yellow Alert.

Residents in these areas are advised to be cautious, check for traffic advisories, and avoid venturing into waterlogged areas or vulnerable structures.

What is the Broader Monsoon Outlook?

The weather pattern across India is split. The Southwest Monsoon is now expected to exit from portions of Gujarat, Punjab, and Rajasthan, marking the end of the rainy season in these areas.

Conversely, a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to continue fueling heavy to very heavy rainfall over the northeastern states and Maharashtra, particularly in Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada, for the next few days.

People who live in impacted areas should keep up with the most recent IMD alerts and adjust their travel plans accordingly
