With a yellow notice for today, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts light to moderate rain and intermittent thunderstorms, signaling a change in Delhi's weather. Gusty winds are expected to reach speeds of up to 40–50 km/hour, with precipitation forecasted from Sunday into early next week. Meteorologists say these scattered showers could play a crucial role in clearing the city’s air, which had slipped back to a ‘moderate’ category by Saturday after a brief period of cleaner conditions.
Over the weekend, Delhi’s 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 138, marking a slight increase from Friday’s unusually clean rating of 88. The improvement was short-lived, as a drop in wind speed and lack of rain allowed pollutants to linger. Mahesh Palawat of Skymet Weather noted, “Some rain is expected Sunday, with a higher possibility of showers on Monday and Tuesday. This should help disperse pollutants and bring temperatures down by a couple of degrees.”
Current conditions show mist with temperatures around 25°C, potentially reaching 34°C later in the day. The city is also under the influence of a fresh Western Disturbance expected to impact Northwest India.
