A 37-year-old woman and her 11-year-old son were discovered dead on Saturday after apparently jumping from the 13th floor of their apartment in Greater Noida West. Police added that a suicide note indicated the mother was upset over her child’s long illness.

The tragedy took place at about 10 am at Ace City high-rise complex, which falls within Bisrakh police station area, triggering panic among residents. The neighbours sounded the alarm after hearing shrill cries and found the mother and son lying in a pool of blood in the shared open space. The two were pronounced dead on the spot.

Police found a suicide note to the woman’s husband saying: “We are leaving this world… sorry. We don’t want to trouble you anymore. Nobody is responsible for our deaths.”

The woman lived with her chartered accountant husband and their sole child, who had been under treatment for a chronic health disorder. The father had stepped out for work that day after instructing his wife to give the boy’s medicines. She is said to have given the dose and then taken him to the rooftop, where both of them were found dead a few minutes later.

“After getting news that a woman and her 11-year-old daughter had jumped from the 13th floor in Greater Noida, police reached the site and disposed of the bodies for post-mortem examination,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida) Shakti Mohan Awasthi.

Initial investigation shows the child had been receiving treatment since childhood, was not in school, and relied on drugs. The family, which came from a village in Uttarakhand, had also approached spiritual healers, but the child’s situation did not change, a situation that could have contributed to the mother’s anguish.

Police confirmed they found the suicide note inside the apartment. Although the case is being investigated as a suspected suicide, all the angles are being fully explored.
